In today's second round of ATP500 Tokyo Open, Rendy faced Richard Gasquet of France. Gasquet is currently No. 30, but was ranked as high as No. 7 and winner of 14 titles. Rendy has lost to Gasquet twice already prior to today's match.
In the first set today, Rendy was in trouble starting from the beginning. After hitting too many unforced errors and being broken three times, Rendy quickly lost first set 0-6. In the second set, Rendy tried to stabalize his game but was broken at 1-1 to fall behind 1-2. However, Rendy started hitting better shots and broke Gasquet twice to go up 5-3 to serve for the set. But, Gasquet broke back to stay alive in this set. In the tie-breaker, Rendy hit a cross-court forehand long to end the match. Final score was 0-6, 6-7(5). It was unfortunate as Rendy had his chances and almost turned around the match in the second set.
Rendy will fly to Shanghai tomorrow to get ready for the qualifying round of Shanghai Masters.
