In today's semi-final match at the $150K Jinan Challenger in China, Rendy faced long time rivalry #3 seed Go Soeda from Japan. Soeda has been playing very well whole week, having only lost six games in the first three matches. Playing under today's extreme heat at 2pm, Rendy struggled in this hot weather.
In the first set, Rendy was broken immediately in the first game. Even though Rendy broke back to even the set at 4-4, Soeda broke Rendy again and Rendy lost the first set 4-6. In the second set, both players held serve and the set went to the tie-breaker. Rendy faced one match point at 6-7 with Soeda serving, but fought back to take second set 7-6 (7). In the third set, Soeda showed sign of tireless and wasn't as consistent with his ground strokes which game Rendy some opportunities. Rendy broke Soeda at 4-4 and eventually won the set 6-4.
In tomorrow's final, Rendy will face #6 seed Richardas Berankis from Lithuania. Berankis will be fresh tomorrow as he didn't have to play today's semi-final round due to his opponent #2 Donskoy had the withdraw the match the last minute due to fever. Berankis was ranked as high as ATP#50 last year so tomorrow's final will be a tough fight for Rendy.
