In the singles finals today, Yen-Hsun Rendy Lu played against Tatsuma Ito of Japan. Ito is one of the few top-100 players from Japan, ranked as high as No. 60 back in 2012. Lu and Ito have played three times before, with Lu up 2-1. Both players also had winter training together two years ago. So, both players are quite familiar with each other's style.
In the first set, Lu played aggressive while Ito wasn't serving well. Lu took first set easily 6-1. In the second set, Ito started playing better and put pressure on Lu. Both players held serves and match went to the tie-breaker. After Lu being down with a mini-break early on, he bounced back and didn't give Ito any more chance. Lu won the match 6-1, 7-6(4).
It was the first tournament win for Lu in 2017, and the 27th Challenger title in Lu's career. Thanks to Team Lu and all sponsors for the support, thanks to Santaizi Challenger for putting together a great tournament, and thanks to all the fans who came to cheer for Lu throughout the whole week. It is a great feeling to win a tournament at home in front of the home crowd.
