After losing to Mikhail Kukushkin at the second round of Irving Challenger in Texas earlier, Yen-Hsun Rendy Lu is in Florida this week to play at the Miami Open, an ATP1000 Masters event. In the first round singles, Lu came through with straight set win over #128 Casper Ruud of Norway 6-2, 6-1. The18-year-old Ruud was the top ranked junior player last year, and quickly rising in ATP tour, and was the semi-finalist in ATP500 Rio Open a month ago.
In the second round, Lu faced 16th seed Alexander Zverev of Germany. Lu just beat Zverev in Toronto Masters 7-5, 6-3 last summer. But, today Lu wasn't as lucky. At the start of the match, Lu quickly felt back pain. After three games, Lu called injury timeout. But, even with the treatment and massage from the trainer, Lu wasn't able to perform at his best. On the other hand, Zverev was playing well. Lu quickly lost 0-6, 3-6 to the young and talented Zverev.
Lu will next return to Taiwan to get some rest and get ready for Santaizi Challenger in Taipei the week of 4/17.
